My First Patent

A bit of shameless horn-tooting…

Five years after its 2002 filing, patent # 7174517 for the When.com “Multi-layered online calendaring and purchasing” system was finally issued.  Click here to see it.

Since I am one of the co-authors, it’s my first – and only -- patent. I can finally stick something other than amateur guitar playing at the end of my resume.

Too bad AOL is the assignee. It might have been fun to sue Apple (see iCal) and Microsoft (see Outlook 2007 calendars) for ripping off my idea.
